Anita Norval is the Practice Manager of Pacific Maritime Lawyers and a Justice of the Peace (Qualified). She oversees the firm’s day-to-day operations and plays a central role in ensuring that its people, systems and resources work together effectively to deliver a professional and responsive service to clients.
Anita brings more than six years’ experience in the legal sector, with a background in litigation and insolvency law. She has worked closely with clients, solicitors, barristers and other professionals, providing practical support in complex, document-intensive and time-sensitive matters.
Her earlier experience included working in a busy barristers’ chambers, where she assisted with court filing procedures, legal research, preparation of briefs and evidence, document management and case preparation. This experience gave Anita a strong understanding of legal processes, court requirements and the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, and careful attention to deadlines.
In addition to her legal experience, Anita has substantial business management and operational experience. Having previously operated and managed her own business, she understands the commercial realities of running an organisation, including financial management, staffing, compliance, client relationships, business development, and the implementation of effective workplace systems.
At Pacific Maritime Lawyers, Anita is responsible for coordinating the administrative and operational functions of the practice. Her role includes overseeing:
- client enquiries, onboarding, and engagement processes;
- financial administration, billing, and debtor management;
- trust account administration and internal procedures;
- regulatory, professional and risk-management compliance;
- staff recruitment, induction, supervision, and workflow coordination;
- legal practice management systems and technology;
- policies, precedents, and quality-control processes;
- matter administration and deadline monitoring;
- cybersecurity and the protection of confidential client information;
- marketing, business development, and professional relationships; and
- the continued improvement of the firm’s systems and client service.
Anita works closely with the firm’s Legal Practice Director, solicitors, and consultants to support the efficient progression of matters and ensure that the practice maintains appropriate systems, clear internal accountability and high professional standards.
She is highly organised, practical, and solutions-focused, with a strong ability to manage competing priorities and identify issues before they affect the firm or its clients. Her attention to detail and structured approach are particularly valuable in a specialist legal practice where matters are frequently urgent, commercially significant, and technically complex.
Anita is committed to providing clients with a clear and supportive experience from their first contact with the firm. She understands that clients often seek assistance during uncertain or stressful circumstances and places particular importance on communication, transparency and ensuring that clients understand the administrative steps required for their matter to progress.
Her direct and approachable communication style enables her to build strong relationships with clients, staff, and external service providers. She combines professionalism with empathy and ensures that enquiries and concerns are handled promptly, respectfully, and practically.
As a Justice of the Peace (Qualified), Anita also brings experience in witnessing and certifying documents and an appreciation of the accuracy, integrity and procedural care required when dealing with important legal and personal documentation.
Through her combination of legal support experience, business ownership and operational leadership, Anita contributes significantly to the management and continued development of Pacific Maritime Lawyers. Her role enables the firm’s legal practitioners to focus on delivering specialist advice while ensuring that the business remains organised, compliant, commercially disciplined and focused on its clients.
